Yesterday was a sad day. It saw the end to a pair of glasses that have faithfully carried me through the last ten years. Yes they were ugly, old, repaired multiple times with glue, and had lost all of their original lustre. I counter that with not having to pay for new ones, not having headaches, and always being assured of their steadfastness. They were "teh glasses"....until they met the foot of the toddler tornado. I was having one of my newest pregnancy complaints when it happened. Lately, the baby seems to settle herself really low in my back and it feels like my hips and ass are about to explode off my body. One of the few positions that alleviates the pain is the classic hands and knees position. So I was propped up that way on the couch, head down, trying to sway the baby into some other position when Lukas decided it was a great time to climb on the couch and attack mama. When he did, the frame just snapped. And it couldn't have snapped in a more inconvenient place for a quick or ugly fix. Many hours of glues, putties, tapes, and concrete later, we ended up with the result that you see above. It's not pretty. But even worse, the lens is held in a precarious grasp of some putty, wobbly in the frame and slightly out of focus. Which led to the 5 hour ordeal at vision places today to try and get new ones.
On the plus side, my prescription barely changed in the last 10 years (yay!)and I think I ended up with some very cute and hopefully not too trendy frames (which I shall post when I get them). On the downside, it seems that glasses have, for the most part, changed to a very limited sort of style where all the frames are tiny and square. I can't stand being able to see the frame in my line of vision so it took a very very long time to pick out glasses that would look good and appease my vision requirements. The ones I got are very cute, kind of rectangular but come to a point to make them almost faux cat's eye. I can't wait to sport them around. So goodbye old faithful glasses, and hopefully hello tomorrow to the new cute faithful glasses.
